Newsletter January 3-6

General Announcements

  • Welcome Back! :)  We hope you all enjoyed your time with family and friends.  This week we are diving right back into our  routines and academics.  We are reviewing expectations and setting goals to make 2017 the best year yet!

    • Please help us by reminding your child to check the agenda each day and to make sure they are prepared for school with all of their materials, including homework.  Also, we are continuing to encourage a growth mindset!  With a positive attitude, effort, and hard work, the sky is the limit for these wonderful students!
    • Report Cards will be sent home tomorrow, January 4th.  Please sign one copy and return.  You may keep the other copy for your records.
    • Attention All Parents: To comply with Alabama’s new Erin’s Law, Hoover City School counselors and administrators have created a plan to provide basic child sexual abuse prevention lessons for all students in K-5th, 7th, 9th, and 11th grades. Parent information sessions are scheduled for January 10th at 6 p.m. at Hoover High School and January 12th at noon at Spain Park High School. At these sessions, parents can view the lessons that will be presented to students at each school. Please click here for more detailed information on HCS’s plan to implement Erin’s Law, including the option for your child to NOT participate.  Click here for this information in Spanish. Brock’s Gap 5th grade students will receive this letter along with their report card on Wednesday, January 4th.  If you choose for your child to opt out of these lessons, please return the letter to your child’s homeroom teacher by January 13th. Career & College Day VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

    Dear Brock’s Gap Volunteers,
We are planning a “Career & College Day” for our students on Friday, February 17, 2017, 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. We are currently looking for volunteers! Would YOU (or a friend or family member) be willing to come speak to our students about your profession and education? If so, please click on the link below to complete a quick form. Thank you very much for your willingness to be part of this fun and educational day!
Scheduling depends on how many speaker volunteers, but presentations will need to be 20 minutes long, allowing enough time for questions at the end of each presentation. A speaker will do the same presentation about 5 times for different groups of children. However, if you have scheduling constraints that would require a different plan, we are more than happy to work around them. THANK YOU again for your interest in sharing your time and expertise! If you have any questions, please call or email Terri Coleman, BGIS Counselor at 439-1634, tcoleman@hoover.k12.al.us or Coley Robichaux, BGIS Counselor at 439-1624, nrobichaux@hoover.k12.al.us.

    • Chromebooks- For students that owe fees and were  using a loaner Chromebook prior to the Winter break. Fee payment instructions can be found at hcseli.com or you can get assistance by calling Mrs. Donna Rainey at (205)439-1614.
    • There is no First Priority this week.  It will resume next Wednesday at 7:30 in the choir room.
    • Please check each teacher's individual page for curriculum updates.
